20th november 08

On friday 13th, i finished editing my film completley and i have now started my evaluation.

I finished adding music and sound effects to my film, making sure that they created an eerie
mood throughout the film.
On Thursday 19th, i burned my film onto a DVD ready to be viewed, and i completed my questionnaires to be handed out to people as they watch my film.
When i have collected the information from my questionnaires, i shall finish my evaluation using that information to help me.

13th november 08

Last saturady i filmed my opening 2 minutes.
I had to film it abit differently to how i had first planned, as i was unable to get to the location that i wanted to use. Also the quality is not as good as i had hoped, as it started to get dark quickly, which made the shots dark.
My films opens with a shot of The victim walking towards the camera from a very long shot down a narrow pathway. The credits Fade in and out over the shot.
After about 5 seconds, the shot changes to an over the shoulder shot, and He walks away from the camera.
In the next shot, the camera films some trees, then pans to the right slowly to show the victim walking down a path and past some bushes. As the victim walks past the bushes, the attacker can be seen for a second, then dissapears into the bushes As the victim passes.

In the next shot, The victim is walking down a path towards a church, and as he reaches the end of the path, the attacker steps into shot right infront of the camera facing towards the victim.
The victim then turns around, and the attacker steps out of shot.
The next shot shows the victim looking behind him but from the front using match-on-action to make it look realistic. He then continues walking the way he was going, but he is more paranoid and scared. As the victim walks off shot, the attacker walks out from behind a bush at the bottom of the path that the victim just walked down.

The next shot shows the victim walking away from the camera, past some gravestones, as the camer films his legs only. The attackers foot then decends into the shot stamping down on the ground, and the victim looks round to see who is there.
In the next shot, it shows the attacker standing behind the victim, and then in the next shot the attacker is gone.
The victim then starts to run through the graveyard, and under some trees.
He then stops beside a a wall, and the attacker reaches out from behind the wall and attempts to stab the victim. The victim sees the attacker just in time and runs away.
There are some shots of the victim running away, and the attacker running between gravestones and trees from different angles.
The victim then runs around a corner, where the attacker is waiting for him, and stabs him.
The next shot is then of the attacker standing above the corpse of the victim.
That is the end scene of my 2 minute opening.

In my media lessons, i have learnt about representation.

I have learnt that representation is the process of making meaning in still or moving images and words/sounds, or to present/show someone or something.
It is used to describe the process by which an image etc. may be used to represent/stand for someone, something, for example a place or an idea.

I have also uploaded my 2 minute opening onto a compter and have started to edit it.
I have added all of the clips together, and have cut them to the right sizes. Also i have added transitions and effects to certain clips.
In my next lesson, i hope to finish editing, apart from adding the music, which i will make and add soon.

21st october 08

For the past few weeks i have been working on my storyboard and planning for my opening 2 minutes of a film.

I have decided that the genre of my film will be Horror. I have decided this because it is a genre that i have some good ideas for, and i think that i can do well in it.

I have completed my storyboard draft, using an A4 sheet of paper for each shot with drawings for what i want to happen, and annotations underneath to show what types of shots i want and what sound will be playing. Also i have made a timeline that shows in 5 secondgaps what will happen in my film.

2nd october 08

On Monday and Tuesday, we went on our trip to London. We took a video camera and two digital cameras so that we could make our documentary. We started filming once we had got on the train to London. On the train, we all filmed our own parts in which we said a bit about ourselves and a bit about the others in our group.

Also we filmed ourselves talking about what we were going to be doing on the trip and in the documentary, and we took a few pictures of us to add into it.

Once we got off the train, we filmed a bit more about what we were planning to do, and took some pictures of us in different poses to add into the video. We then went into London and looked around for places to take pictures of. We took pictures of the London eye, Big ben, Canary wharf and various statues like the Nelson Mandela statue, and the Churchill statue.

After that we went to the BBC, where we got to look around. We took lots of pictures around the place, and we learnt about how the news is made and how programmes are made in the studios.

After the BBC we went to the hostel that we were staying at. We filmed a part for the documentary in our room, and what we all thought about what had happened that day.

On tuesaday, we went to the imperial war museum, where we went to the Ian Flemming display and learnt about his life and about how he created James Bond.We took notes about important points for studying.

We then went into the world war 2 section, and we recorded while we looked around a typical war time house for the documentary.
Also before we left we took pictures of different tanks, cannons and boats that were in the museum.

At the end of the trip, we got onto the train and filmed the ending of the documentary.

26th sept 08

Over the past week we have finished editing our film, but on Thursday, we found out that we hadn't got our storyboard pictures, so we had to redo them. We decided to redo our film as well, because we thought that we could improve it. We had to get someone from another group to act in our film as Lucy, one of our group members was absent.
We went to a different spot to film this time, as we could get some better camera angles, and we had easier access to tables and chairs. I decided that i wanted to act in the film, and that the cameraman would be Chris, from my group.
First of all we took the still shots for our storyboard. We then used those pictures to make the film.
First, we positioned the camera to film the door from the outside, facing towards the door. I walked in to the shot and and opened the door. Chris then took the camera to the other side of the door and i stayed in the same position. He set the camera up at an angle so that you could see me coming through the door, and the table. He then filmed me going through the doorway and closing the door, walking up to the table and sitting down opposite the other character.
Chris then setup the camera for an over the shoulder shot, with the camera looking at me from the other actors shoulder. We filmed one line of dialogue in this shot.
The camera was then setup to show both of us at the table from the side facing each other, keeping to the 180 rule. We filmed one line of dialogue in this shot.
Then in the final shot, we filmed from us both from a side view, but at a medium shot distance this time. In this shot, we shook hands over the table.
We then uploaded our film onto the mac so that we could edit it. Me and Chris stayed behind after school so that we could finish editing our film before Friday when we were going to burn them onto DVDs.
I edited the part where i walk through the door, and the part where i sit down on the chair so that they were very smooth. I done this by cutting small segments off of the ends of the clips, until it was perfect. Chris then added the titles and credits to the film, and also the music. He done that by clicking on the edit button, selecting what type of titles he wanted, and then added text into the box and clicked on the 'add' button.
On Friday, we quickly loaded up our finished film and burned it onto a DVD. Also we were told all about what was going to happen and what we were going to see on our trip to London.

22th sept 08

On friday, we edited our short films. I learned how to add different effects to video clips like transition effects like fading, how to add music to clips, and how to add titles and credits to the start and end of films.
Today we added the finishing touches to our short films. We added credits to the end stating who done what and who acted in it etc. Once we had done that we added some music to play during the opening titles, then the music fades out and the video clip plays, then the music fades back in and plays through the end credits.

Today i learnt about some of the key concepts of Media. these concepts were Media language, Media text and Media audience.
We also loaded our still shots onto the computer so that we could edit them. once we had uploaded the photos, we put them into a slideshow so that we could view them.

8th sept 08

Today we learnt about the 180 rule. we took the cameras out to take pictures to put on a story board, and we positioned the camera using the 180 rule. i drew a rough copy of the story board and what we wanted each shot to look like. In the storyboard it showed two people walking side by side along a road. using the 180 rule,we took some still shots using the drawings from the rough story board as guidelines.
